On Tuesday, June 7, 2016 the San Gorgonio Chapter of the Sierra Club will have their monthly meeting at the San Bernardino County Museum located at 2024 Orange Tree Lane in Redlands at 7:30 p.m. Join as Sierra Club member John St. Claire presents: “Volcanos and Vistas: Basin and Range”, an exploration of national monuments, parks, and recreation areas of eastern Oregon, Idaho, and Nevada. The Sierra Club offers many National trips that range from backpacking service trips to canoe, kayak, lodge, and international travel. The program photographs were taken by Sierra Club member Mary Ann Ruiz who opted for a lodge trip last summer and added an extra week of exploring some of our lesser known national monuments, recreation areas and national parks. The program shows the experiences of Sierra Club National volunteer trip leaders as they traveled to central Oregon to visit Crater Lake and then on to Oregon’s LaPine State Park, touring the Newberry National Monument and the Three Sisters Wilderness area. After leaving the Sierra Club trip she traveled to John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Sawtooth National Recreation Area, and Great Basin National Park. John St. Claire is the Outings Chair for the Los Serranos Group, Sierra Club. He is a retired teacher who taught for 35 years in the Ontario-Montclair School District. In addition to being an avid hiker, he is the leader for the Inland Valley Storytellers. He has been performing as a storyteller since 2003 and has produced many concerts for the Inland Valley. All are welcome to attend the meeting. Parking and admission are free but donations are accepted for room rental.
