The Inland Empire Valley Flute Society (IEVFS) will be hosting its 5th Annual “Flute Festival” on Sunday, Oct. 5 beginning at 12 p.m. The event will be held at the Azure Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church at 22633 Barton Road, in Grand Terrace. This year’s featured artist will be Phyllis Avidan Louke. Louke is a principal flutist with the Oregon Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra and Oregon Symphonic Band. She is the Music Director of the Rose City Flute Choir and an active chamber musician and is an award-winning arranger and composer of music for flute ensembles. She has co-authored an acclaimed series of flute method and technique books: Flute 101; Flute 102; Flute 103; and The Flute Scale Book. The Flute Festival will include exhibits, a masterclass presented by Louke, and a flute choir reading session. The Festival will conclude with a concert by Louke beginning at 5:30 p.m. Of special note is that Louke will be bringing her contra-bass flute. This rare instrument is pitched two octaves lower than the standard “C” flute and is over 7 feet in length. The event is open to any student, amateur, or professional flute players. To register for the event, go to the IEVFS website at www.InlandEmpireValleyFluteSociety.com and fill out the registration form. For more information, contact IEVFS Events Coordinator Jackie Aronowitz at 909-335-1833.
