Recently the Boys & Girls Clubs held a block party in front of their clubhouse in Redlands with food, games, music and activities during their Day for Kids event, which gives the community an opportunity to come out as a family and enjoy a day together. Families enjoyed rock climbing, PGA Golf activities, arts and crafts, games and giveaways, a Kona Ice Truck, Panda Express, Jose’s Mexican Food, Niko Niko Sushi, the McGuire Family burgers, and photo fun with Target, as well as several other booths designed to get the children to visit, learn and share. Volunteers from Kohl’s and Home Depot helped support the Day for Kids event. Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar declared a proclamation for Sept. 21 as Day for Kids Day. Guest enjoyed performances by Aztec dancing groups as well as a solo performance by Club member Ariana Wright. “If it wasn’t for this great community coming together, Day for Kids would not be what it is,” said Mark Davis, Vice President of Boys & Girls Clubs. “We want to thank everyone who participated and made the event fun for all ages. We truly appreciate the support we receive from our community partners each year and look forward to next year.” Day for Kids is a free event and open for everyone to attend. Boys & Girls Clubs thanks the sponsors, volunteers, staff, friends and guests who helped make this year’s event something to remember. Boys & Girls Clubs recognizes Kiwanis Club of Redlands; Redlands Recreation—a bureau of the Redlands Police Department; Sight for Students; Brown, White & Newhouse; and Panda Express as well as all of the other restaurants, groups and companies who joined to share in this special day. “We had a great turnout this year,” said P.T. McEwen, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs. “Hundreds of smiling faces of kids enjoying themselves at Day for Kids—we couldn’t ask for much more than that. Our goal is to help and serve kids daily and this event is just one of the many things we do throughout the year.”

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
