REDLANDS>> The City of Redlands co-hosted the grand opening celbration for CheeseWalla, Redlands' Authentic grilled cheese restaurant, on Saturday, April 29, in the Orange Street Alley and along 5th Street between Citrus Avenue and State Street. The opening marks the first restaurant expansion along the alley.

CheeseWalla, a continued vendor during the Thursday night Redlands Market Nights, took its popular and authentic grilled cheeses to a more centralized location with the opening of the new shop within the alley, for customers to enjoy custom grilled cheeses all week long.

The City completed construction of the alley improvements in July of 2015, creating a destination point for visitors, the community and artists. Since then it has become a contributor to the overall economic vitality of the downtown area and has drawn the interest of several restaurant owners for outdoor dining opportunities.

The City celebrated the first restaurant to open adjacent to the Orange Street Alley. CheeseWalla has secured a lease with the City to utilize the alley for an outdoor dining area. During their dining experience, patrons of CheeseWalla will be able to enjoy the historic attributes, alley improvements and the City’s downtown atmosphere. The event included a grilled cheese donut eating contest, live music, Augie’s coffee and cupcake sales, and a speech and ribbon cutting from Redland's Mayor Paul Foster.
