On Monday, Sept. 9, Redlands Police detectives in a joint effort with the Pima County, Arizona, Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST) arrested a suspect in the 1988 cold case murder of a 56-year-old Redlands woman. Jimmy B. Morrison, 63, was arrested at approximately 8:20 a.m. for the June 15, 1988 murder of Catherine Dade, the director of the Guadalupe Home for Boys in Yucaipa, where Morrison was the assistant director. Dade’s body was discovered that same day in her south Redlands home after she failed to show up to work. She had suffered blunt force trauma and other injuries. Redlands detectives launched a homicide investigation and identified Morrison as a person of interest, but the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges at the time. Redlands detectives reopened the case in 2005 and more recently the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Unit decided to file charges against Morrison. On Aug. 23, Redlands detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Morrison and coordinated with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to make Monday’s arrest. Morrison was arrested at his residence in the 8900 block of East Old Spanish Trail in Pima County. Morrison remains jailed there in lieu of $1 million bail awaiting an extradition hearing.
