Redlands Community Hospital has been named one of the best 100 hospitals in America for orthopedic surgery, joint replacement and spine surgery by Healthgrades, the nation’s leading source of hospital data, ranking in the top 5 percent in the nation for 2015. “Our patients are our number one priority and we strive every day to provide perfect care for every community member we care for,” said Jim Holmes, Redlands Community Hospital President and CEO. “Receiving these honors emphasizes our daily commitment to providing the best quality patient care, not only for our local residents, but in the nation as well.” The report, American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2015: Healthgrades Report to the Nation, evaluates how approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide performed on risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for nearly 30 of the most common conditions treated and procedures performed from 2011 through 2014. For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 40 million Medicare hospitalization records for services performed from 2011 through 2014 at approximately 4,500 short-term, acute care hospitals nationwide. Patients being treated in hospitals receiving 5 stars have, on average, 61% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals receiving 1 star (based on 2009-2012 data across nine common procedures and diagnoses). Healthgrades independently measures hospitals based on data that hospitals submit to the federal government. No hospital can opt in or out of the analysis, and no hospital pays to be measured. Healthgrades risk adjusts for patient demographic characteristics and clinical risk factors, thereby taking into account how sick patients are upon admission. Redlands Community Hospital received 10 total orthopedic recognitions by Healthgrades: • Healthgrades Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award – 4 years in a row • Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award – 5 years in a row • Healthgrades 2015 Spine Surgery Excellence Award • Named among top 5 percent in the nation for overall orthopedic services– 4 years in a row • Named among top 5 percent in the nation for joint replacement – 5 years in a row • Named among top 10 percent in the nation for spine surgery in 2015 • Five-Star recipient for total knee replacement – 8 years in a row • Five-Star recipient for hip fracture treatment – 4 years in a row • Five-Star recipient for total back surgery – 4 years in a row • Five-Star recipient for spinal fusion surgery in 2015
