USPS Removes 16 Blue Collection Boxes

The United States Postal Service (USPS) removed 16 blue collection boxes throughout Redlands after density checks proved collection boxes at these sites weren't getting enough traffic. "The policy is that the density checks last for 14 days. If a mailbox isn't seeing an average of 25 pieces per day, then we can remove them," said Eva Jackson, USPS spokesperson for San Bernardino County. Density checks are conducted on a national scale and the USPS is required to post a 30-day notice on each collection box slated for removal before they are extracted. The removal is not connected to talk of the possible closure of Redlands's main post office, located on Brookside Avenue, Jackson said. "Density checks are something we do nationwide every year," Jackson said. Not sending employees to collection boxes not seeing enough traffic "saves time, money and gas." Collection boxes have been removed from the following sites: • Beaver Medical Group, 2 West Fern Avenue • 13 North Center Street • 928 Salem Drive • Gerrards Market, 705 W. Cypress Avenue • Redlands Medical Center, 245 Terracina Boulevard • 1125 Pine Avenue • 1275 Brookside Avenue • Redlands Community Hospital, 350 Terracina Boulevard • 190 North Center Street • Las Palmas Plaza, 1150 Brookside Avenue • U.S. Post Office, 404 New York Street (two removed outside and one removed inside) • University of Redlands, 1231 East Colton Avenue • 626 North Dearborn Street • Redlands Public Health Clinic, 800 East Lugonia Avenue
