After 91 vehicles crossed through a weekend Sobriety/Drivers License checkpoint in the eastbound lanes of Colton Avenue between New York and Texas Streets between 10 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 3 a.m. Feb. 22, Redlands police made no DUI arrests. Five drivers were cited during the checkpoints, however; four for driving with suspended or revoked licenses and one for driving without a license. Officers handed out fliers in both English and Spanish from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to educate motorists about the dangers of drinking and driving, a release from the city states. Funding for the checkpoint was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Ongoing DUI checkpoints are components of the Redlands Police Department’s Responsible Redlands initiative, launched initiative in August 2013 to focus on enforcing alcohol laws.
