For all garden lovers of Redlands there was an event held this last Saturday at the Historic Kendall Place. The house became home to the “Fairy Garden Festival,” which started early at 10 a.m. The front yard was covered with vendors selling their garden themed knick-knacks and there were plants of all sorts for the event-goers to purchase or to simply enjoy. Many also sold hand-made creations, such as paintings and carvings of gardens. One of the more popular booths sold was what the creator calls “Pixie Village Cottages.” These hand-made cottages resemble something you may have seen in a fairy tale film. They come in all sizes, big and small; creator Dennis Patterson shared it is his hobby and that it takes him approximately three to five days to make these cottages. He shared, “We (he and his wife) have lots of fun making them! I wish I could do it full time.” Inside the house, many brought their garden inspirations to display, and event-goers had the chance to vote for their favorite. In the backyard, Linda Evans was giving a demonstration on how to grow your own produce. She advised the audience to “spend the extra money (on soil) for your food," mainly for the reason that organic soil is more expensive, but she says it will help you stay healthier longer. Another demonstration was set to start at 11:30 a.m. This event was called the “Hands-on Fairy Garden Workshop,” and it gave many the opportunity to show their creativity skills. Many participants had previously to the event bought accessories, such as small pebbles and fairy dolls, for their garden.
