Staff Member Marries at the Senior Living Home Focused on Family Values

Loma Linda’s Emeritus Senior Living values family above all else, and it was their dedication to bringing senior residents and staff together that facilitated just the kind of environment of friends and family needed for a wedding. Guests gathered at the front entrance of the home on June 28 to watch two Emeritus employees dedicate the rest of their lives together in love: Brian Fox married his wife Lisa, whom he met while working at Emeritus. Brian is the maintenance director for the center, but his lighthearted and cheerful personality makes him more of a friend to the residents. “The residents adore him,” Lori Spencer, the executive director of Loma Linda Emeritus, recounted. By the way Brian joked through the ceremony, it was easy to see how well he got along with the community. In fact, he met Lisa when she worked on the staff as a caregiver five years ago. Lisa reminisced on how they met: “One phone call started everything,” she said. Lisa only worked at Emeritus for a year, but despite transferring to Forest Falls, another assisted-living community, she chose to maintain contact with Brian. Eventually they moved in together and, last week, got married. Spencer offered a few comments about this storybook wedding. “The residents, family, and staff all helped decorate. They made an event out of it!” he said. The night before the wedding day, everyone gathered together to share in the happiness, setting up and having a dinner in celebration of Brian and Lisa. The joy that was brought into the senior living home seemed to touch everyone. With festive deviled eggs in hand, residents were talking and joking to one another and the staff members long after the vows had been said. Along with those associated with Emeritus, family members including Brian’s three daughters and two grandchildren were also in attendance. One of his daughters, Naomi Fox, expressed her joy that her father was marrying Lisa. “It’s been a long time waiting,” she said, “And she is good to me.” There wasn’t a soul in the room who could object to the lovebirds getting married. Having the ceremony at the place they met, around family, friends, residents and staff who adored the couple, tied together a love-filled Friday afternoon.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
