REDLANDS >> The Redlands Police Department is seeking input from the Redlands community to name the department’s new K9 dog. The dog, a 2-year old, 70-pound male German shepherd, will be working with Officer Joseph Valdivia and joins Chewy as part of the RPD K9 force. The RPD is asking the community to suggest a name for the newest K9. When thinking of names, it is important to keep in mind that these are working police dogs, not pets. The winning contestant will get to meet the newest K9 officer, along with Chewy and their handlers, Officers Joseph Valdivia and Jaimeson Liu. The contest rules are simple: •Contestants may suggest up to two names. •The name must be for a male dog. •The name must have no more than nine (9) letters. •The name must be one or two syllables. •Contestants must live in Redlands, work in Redlands or attend a school within the Redlands Unified School District. •Entries must be received by June 27, 2016. •The top 10 finalists will be announced June 29, 2016. The winning finalist name will be announced on June 30, 2016. The top 10 names will be chosen by the K-9 handlers and the final winning name will be chosen by the RPD Command Staff. To enter, send an email that includes the entrant’s name, telephone number, email and the suggested name for the K9 officer to: k9namecontest@redlandspolice.org. The deadline for entries is June 27, 2016. The contest winner will be announced on June 30, 2016.
