LOMA LINDA>> The 15th Annual PossAbilities & Quest Kid's Triathlon will be held at the Loma Linda University Drayson Center on Sunday, April 23, at 7 a.m. PossAbilities director Pedro Payne, PhD, said the triathlon is known for bringing together families, friends and community members to have fun and stay healthy at the same time. “What makes this triathlon unique is that you see challenged and able-bodied athletes as well as US veterans compete on the same field,” Payne said. The Quest Kid’s Triathlon is composed of an obstacle course of a quarter mile run/walk/roll, a quarter mile bike ride and a 25-yard swim in the Drayson Center pool. Bernie from the Inland Empire 66er’s is set to host a warmup for the kid's race at 9 a.m. The kid’s portion of this year's event has been named in honor of PossAbilities’ title sponsor Quest Diagnostics. All who finish will receive medals. Registration is free for all challenged athletes, $35 for the individual 5k, $20 for the kids triathlon, $75 for the adult triathlon, $20 for the Adult Tri-LLU Student, $100 for the Adult Tri Relay group-registration, and $40 for the Adult Tri-LLU Student Relay group-registration. Race packets may be picked up on Saturday, April 22 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Loma Linda Drayson Center Soccer field. Please arrive at 6. a.m. for parking, as the race will shut down the nearby road. Registrants may park in the lot at the corner of Shepardson St. and Benton Ave, the parking lot on Mound Street - behind the Bank of America -, or any curb that hasn't been closed. Challenged athlete parking will be on the lot on the corner of Mound St. and Shepardson St. across from the soccer field. VIP parking at the Drayson Center will be available for event sponsors. The adult triathlon is composed of three segments, beginning with a 5k (3.1 mile) run/walk/roll, then an 11-mile bike ride, and finish with the 150-yard swim. For athletes who aren’t feeling up to the full triathlon, they can participate in just the 5k run/walk/roll.
