There was no need to fear because the Bug Festival was here last Sunday, July 21 at the Kimberly Crest House and Gardens in Redlands. From colorful bumblebees, to little lady bugs, to crawly long-legged spiders, kids from kindergarten to third grade engaged in painting, coloring, and learning bug-style during the Kimberly Crest Bug festival. Board Member and volunteer James Clark shared, “It is impressive to see the youth engage with each other instantly and become social with each other while coloring, cutting, and pasting their small critters. I overheard the conversations amongst the young participants, and one young lady shared that she has a pet snake. It was quite surprising as well as interesting.” Helene Luley, Bug Festival creator and Kimberly Crest House and Gardens volunteer, explained her reasons for arranging the event. “I wanted to create an event for the children in the community so they could engage with one another and also have a fun time with their families. My goal is to make everyone in our community aware of what is going on in our own backyard and participate in events that are presented here at the beautiful grounds of Kimberly Crest,” she said. Ending with animated storytelling by one of the volunteers, the Bug Festival was an event to remember.
