The Salvation Army and Stater Bros. Harvest Hope

Last week, the Salvation Army Inland Empire and Stater Bros. Charities came together to "harvest hope" this summer. At a luncheon held Tuesday, July 28, the Salvation Army Inland Empire accepted a $30,000 donation from Stater Bros. Charities as part of the "Harvesting Hope in the Summer" program, bringing together the Salvation Army and Stater Bros. to combat the decrease in food supply that food pantries experience in the summer months. At last week's donation, Nancy Tortorelli, Donor Relations Director for the Salvation Army Inland Empire, said, "The Salvation Army Inland Empire is proud of the amazing partnership that we have with Stater Bros. These funds will be used to support our Feeding Program which directly benefits the disadvantaged in our local communities." The $30,000 donation given last week was part of a movement to bolster food reserves and support the critical needs in local communities. Funds for this donation were collected at Stater Bros. Supermarket checkstands this past holiday season, during Stater Bros.' "Harvesting Hope in Our Community" campaign. Jack Katzman, a Salvation Army board member for over 20 years, said, "We appreciate how much the Salvation Army receives the support of Stater Bros., which has contributed more than $75 million in food and funds to local Southern California communities." The Salvation Army has been delivering services and hope to the less fortunate and to those in shelters, schools and daycare centers across the Southland for more than 125 years. The Salvation Army has a historic lineage of international public service that dates back to 1865, evolving over the decades into a social service provider. Currently, the Salvation Army has representation in 127 different countries, in addition to nearly 8,000 centers of operation across the United States. The Salvation Army has worked closely with Stater Bros. Supermarkets and Stater Bros. Charities for many years to give back to the local community, providing a helping hand up to those in need. "We don’t just do business in the community, we are part of the community,” stated Jack H. Brown, Chairman and CEO of Stater Bros. Markets. “The ‘Harvesting Hope in the Summer Program’ helps to give our local food pantries and the valued communities they serve some extra help when it’s needed most.”
