REDLANDS>> At about 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 13, firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire in the 1600 block of Sheffield Lane. Arriving units discovered a large two-story house well involved with fire in the attic and on the first floor. A family of five was displaced but no injuries were reported. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack to quench the stubborn blaze. Approximately 10 minutes after their arrival, firefighters were evacuated from the residence when the second story began to collapse. Heavy caliber hose streams eventually brought the fire under control. Redlands Firefighters were assisted by units from San Manuel, San Bernardino County and Loma Linda Fire departments. The fire displaced the family of five, and the Red Cross was called to provide assistance. Estimated loss to the structure and contents is more than $400,000. The cause remains under investigation.
