Participants drove their vintage vehicles through the streets of downtown San Bernardino on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the Third Annual Rendezvous Back to Route 66 event. “The San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce, in 2013, decided to keep the spirit of the Route 66 Rendezvous alive by putting together a two day classic car show held at the San Manuel Stadium,” stated on the event website. “After the success of the Great Race event this past June, the city offered to help bring the Rendezvous back to the streets of downtown on the same foot print as the Great Race.” The event was held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and featured a cruise route, food vendors, a beer garden, kid activities, and hundreds of custom and classic cars. On the main stage was former musical director and 12 year member of The Beach Boys, Chris Farmer, who performed greatest hits from the Beach Boys. Among the organizations at the event was the Norton Air Force Base Museum (NAFBM), showcasing their historic vehicles. Bob Edwards, President and Board of Directors at NAFBM, said, “We brought our military vehicles that belong to the museum for display, and we’re advertising the museum and the veterans group, and some of the wares we have in our gift shop.” Among the military vehicles on display, which were used during WWII and the Korean War, included a 1942 Dodge truck, a 1943 jeep and a 1951 Dodge pick-up truck. The funds raised from the event went toward business support services.
