A motorcyclist was killed and another man arrested following a hit and run collision on Live Oak Canyon Road early Sunday morning.
The motorcyclist, 74-year-old Herbert Long, of Riverside, was traveling east on the 29000 block of Live Oak Canyon Road at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26. A Ford Mustang, driven by 18-year-old Miguel Ochoa Torres, of Fontana, was traveling west on the curvy road at a high rate of speed when the driver drifted off the roadway, overcorrected and crossed the double yellow lines into the oncoming traffic lane and struck the motorcycle.
Long was pronounced dead on the scene. A 26-year-old male passenger in the Mustang was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center and later released.
Ochoa Torres fled the scene on foot and was located with the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department helicopter a short time later hiding in a nearby ravine. He was arrested and transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center. He is currently undergoing medical treatment prior to booking on charges of felony hit and run, felony driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.
