Workers break up sidewalk to make way for installation of crosswalk ramps.

Work has begun on construction on a mile and a half of sidewalk and ADA access ramps in Community Development Block Grant areas where no such facilities previously existed. On Nov. 18, 2014, the City Council awarded the contract for construction of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) 2014 – Sidewalk and ADA Ramp Improvements. Construction is anticipated to be completed by April. The contractor for the $510,950 project is Golden Valley Construction of Palm Springs. All project costs will be funded by the Community Development Block Grant program. No general fund dollars will be used to construct this project. The project will construct 1.5 miles of infill sidewalk and numerous ADA access ramps. Also, portions of High Ave., Seventh St., Ninth St., West State St., and West Citrus Ave. will be widened. Lugonia Ave., 3rd St., 7th St., 9th St., High St., Stuart Ave., West State St., West Citrus Ave. and Kendall St. are within the scope of the CDBG project and are also anticipated to be repaved later this year as part of the PARIS resurfacing program. The CDBG 2014 – Sidewalk and ADA Ramp Improvement project is designed and will be managed by the City of Redlands Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department. The City will make a concerted effort to minimize disruptions for residents and businesses in the project area. Travel in both directions will be available at all times. Traffic control will be installed in the area during construction but is anticipated to be removed daily. Work is anticipated between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Questions about this project may be directed to Olivia Crowley, Community Relations Coordinator at (909) 798-7584, ext. 3. The CDBG defined areas can be viewed on the City website at http://cityofredlands.org/sidewalkprojects.
