The large sinkhole has been repaired and the intersection of Redlands Boulevard and California Street has been reopened.
The intersection of Redlands Boulevard and California Street was reopened to all traffic over the weekend following repair of a large sinkhole that occurred earlier this month.
The sinkhole opened in the westbound lanes of Redlands Boulevard west of California Street on Aug. 4 following a heavy weekend rain.
Floodwaters from an adjoining county flood control channel eroded the ground below the intersection causing the road to collapse. No one was injured but it affected traffic in all directions at Redlands Boulevard and California Street for nearly three weeks while city staff and various other agencies evaluated the structural integrity of the infrastructure and contracted for repairs.
Matich Corp. of San Bernardino was contracted to make the repairs. The intersection was reopened Saturday, Aug. 23. Additional repairs expected this week may require partial lane closures but the intersection is expected to remain open to through traffic.
