The Redlands Fire Department responded to two separate structure fires Monday afternoon, Dec. 2. Both fires were quickly contained and there were no injuries reported in either blaze.
Shortly after noon firefighters from Redlands and Mentone responded to a fire in the 1300 block of North Grove Street. The fire was discovered by a neighbor who saw smoke inside the residence through a window.
Firefighters forced entry into the residence. The fire was contained to a master bathroom, although there was smoke damage throughout the home. The fire was caused by an unattended candle burning in the bathroom. No one was home at the time of the fire. Damage is estimated at $3,000.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., firefighters from Redlands and Mentone responded to a fire in the 1200 block of Sylvan Boulevard. The fire started in a trash can and spread to a storage shed. As the fire grew it caused damage to the roof overhang and electrical supply lines for the vacant building.
Firefighters removed the roof overhang and part of the adjoining roof to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. Damage was estimated at $15,000.
A medical aid call was handled by firefighter/paramedics from Yucaipa while all Redlands units were committed to the Grove Street fire.
