Redlands Police arrested a 38-year-old man for attempted murder and arson in connection with a March 22 fire at an occupied home.
At about 2 a.m. Monday, March 22, Redlands Firefighters and Police responded to a structure fire at a single-family home in the 1200 block of Devon Place. The residents, a husband and wife and their two children, were home at the time and escaped uninjured. Firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Redlands Fire Department arson investigators later determined the cause of the fire to be arson. Residential cameras in the area captured a suspect and a vehicle in the area immediately before and after the fire.
Redlands Police Detectives assisted in the investigation and were able to identify the vehicle using automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras.
Members of the Redlands Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team set up surveillance in the Riverside area and on Tuesday, April 20, police located and detained the suspect, Daniel Ray Fell, at a motel in the 1900 block of University Avenue in Riverside.
Redlands Police served a search warrant at that location and another search warrant at a motel in the 6800 block of Valley Way in Jurupa Valley. Evidence was recovered at both locations.
Fell was arrested on charges of attempted murder and arson of an inhabited structure. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
